Since August 2019, the Indonesia government has been intensively pursuing the idea of moving the capital city of Indonesia to Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. This decision was announced by the president of Indonesia himself in the state palace as a solution to Jakarta now being overcrowded. To this day, the Indonesian government has made a move and started the development of the new capital city namely Nusantara in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. According to Silvia Halim, Deputy for Facilities and Infrastructure of the New Capital City Nusantara, the progress on the construction of Nusantara in East Kalimantan is now 23 percent.
It is important to also note that this new megacity of Indonesia, Nusantara, is being built in the middle of a jungle. The project will not be an easy one and needs lots of excavators that are able to work in heavy-duty areas in the jungle of Kalimantan.
